From thedigitalbits.com Rumor Mill:

Well... it seems that the German equivalent of the MPAA (the FSK) has just rated some of the extras on Disc Two of Universal's forthcoming King Kong: Special Edition (street date TBA, but believed to be 3/28). It looks like the set will pick up right where King Kong: Peter Jackson's Production Diaries left off. Here's some of what you can expect...

Credits, Introduction by Peter Jackson, Kong's New York 1933, Natural History of Skull Island, Prod. Diary 55: Welcome to Postproduction, Prod. Diary 57: Kong Performance Capture, Prod. Diary 56: The Miniature Venture, Prod. Diary 58: Creating Sound Effects, Prod. Diary 59: A Visit to Editorial Department, Prod. Diary 60: Peter Answers Your Questions, Part 1, Prod. More from thedigitalbits.com Rumor Mill:

Finally, eagle-eyed Bits reader Jason G. noticed an interesting omission from yesterday's list of the features on Universal's forthcoming King Kong: Special Edition. Specifically, missing is Prod. Diary 77: 13 Weeks to Go, which features a look at the recording of Howard Shore's music from the film. No doubt this had to do with Jackson's 10th hour replacement of Shore with James Newton Howard as the composer of the film's soundtrack (Jackson and Shore were reportedly having trouble finding common ground on the Kong score). You can view the original clip in Quicktime format here at Kong is King.net (while it lasts).

That sucks. They should just have it on the DVD.

TomOpus 02-08-06 05:54 PM

Well, this 2-disc coupled with the 2-disc production diaries, will make a nice 4-disc set.

ReduxGuy 02-08-06 05:55 PM

Nice?! It'd be what the Titanic 4-disc would have been in the US!!!

The R2 Scandinavia will suppesedly get a DTS soundtrack. I assume the R1 will be getting on as well.

You can never assume with Universal and DTS, specially in Region 1. Universal continiously stiffs us with inferior versions of DVDs. And there are many cases where DTS has been included in other regions but not in R1, without any explanations as to why.

Nice cover. Would have like to have seen a better 2 disc cover than just shrinking the image and putting a massive black border around it.

Willh51 02-13-06 06:23 PM

I'm guessing the two disc is in some kind of neat package, maybe faux-leather or something.

I just pee on my pants. Those are very nice covers.

Rogue588 02-13-06 06:32 PM

I really hope that top cover is inside the bottom cover...

Same here. These two-tiered releases are getting old.

This is Universal we are talking about.

Rizor 02-13-06 06:46 PM

What's the point of having both a single and a two-disc release when we know there'll be a 3 or 4 disc set later on?

To make money, obviously.

Three levels of DVDs: One for people who just want the flick, one for people who like a select few extras, and one for those that want to explore everything about the film.

Also, I'm not sure if a 4-disc set will come out or not - unless Universal just builds in the Production Diaries into a nice multi-disc case.

Hopefully, one Universal (or some merchant, like Best Buy or Circuit City) will carry an exclusive case that houses the 2-disc AND the Production Diaries).

Artman 02-13-06 09:35 PM

I'll pick up the diaries if they're on sale along with it... think they'll still be in stores?

Mr. Cinema 02-13-06 10:18 PM

I prefer the closeup 1-sheet of his face, but I'm still all over that 2-disc.

Paul Arnette 02-14-06 08:03 AM

Any idea what type of DVDs will be used for this release? If either of these have a DVD-18 in them, I'm not buying them and will wait until there is a clear HD format winner instead.

mdc3000 02-14-06 08:21 AM

Think the cover art is sweet...also hoping no dvd-18, but I have to have KONG regardless, so it'll (hopefully with no errors) be a moot point. Looking forward to this, and would definitely love to see some sort of offer to send away for a case that houses this and the production diaries together.
